Jay Spencer's Hobbies & Interests

INTRODUCTION
I have many different interests that keep me busy doing different things. I enjoy working on automobiles, writing articles, photography, poetry, reading, collecting things, music, computers, cooking, fishing and I am also an entrepreneur.

JAY SPENCER'S INTEREST IN AUTOMOBILES

I love working on and restoring older cars. There is something about them, they came from simpler times and were made with pride by real Americans. I have never owned any car newer than a 1991, in fact there is not too many new cars I like other than a new Lincoln Towncar or Lamborghini Murcielago LP640. I love the simplicity of older GM cars from the 60s, 70s and 80s. They are cheap to maintain and easy to work on, also aftermarket parts are abundant for these vehicles. The last GM car that I would buy rolled off the assembly line in 1996. In 1996 GM killed the full size, rear wheel drive line of cars to make room for expanding their failing SUV line.
My love for restoring automobiles has lead me to starting an automotive organization in 1998 for people who have similar interests in the same vehicles as myself. As head of this organization I am in charge of daily operations and strategic marketing of this automotive group.

JAY SPENCER'S INTEREST IN POETRY

Writing poetry is something I have been doing since I first attended college in 1999. It started as writing songs then it gradually transitional over to poetry. It opened up many different things to me. It was a way for me to express how I'm feeling inside and helped me vent about things going on in my life or things I was very happy with. Sometimes it's easier for me to put how I'm feeling onto paper than it is to express myself in spoken word. Not too many people probably knew of my interest in writing poetry before I posted it on here.

JAY SPENCER'S INTEREST IN READING

I read as much as I can with the time I have. MORE TO COME SOON!

JAY SPENCER'S INTEREST IN COLLECTING

I am known for my collections of various things. I used to collect many different action figures but they began taking up too much space. I got into collecting PEZ dispensers many years ago and I currently have over 200 different PEZ dispensers. I also collect mechanical parts for various WWII aircraft that were scrapped.

JAY SPENCER'S INTEREST IN COMPUTERS

My interest in computers began when I was in the 8th grade. My parents at the time purchased a Packard Bell 486 SX 33 MHz computer and we thought it was the greatest thing on earth. I quickly learned Windows 3.1 operating system and DOS 6.2. At that time not too many people even used computers the way they do now. I used to go on BBS systems using an old slow 9600 BPS dial up modem to trade shareware with other users of the BBS. I would also play now primitive door games like LORD and Usurper on these BBS sites. The more I continued going on BBS sites I became interested in ANSI art graphics for the site and eventually interest and creating my own underground BBS. With plenty of time on my hands I taught myself to program very basic things in Qbasic. Over time the computer became outdated and I lost interest in computers for a few years.

In high school I was shown computer repair on ancient 8088 IBM machines. As we became more advanced at computer repair we were allowed to open up the outdated 286 and 386 machines sitting around the shop. Little did I know that the skills I learned then would become my main source of income for over a decade. Now fast forward to around 2002 where I ended up taking up the responsibility of maintaining website content for the automotive group I am part of. I was quickly learning the basics of web design and learning newer operating systems like Windows 98, Windows 2000 and Windows XP soon after. This opened a huge opportunity for me repairing DVRs for the company I currently work at. I was at the time repairing monitors and other electronic devices when a gentleman from the newly formed IT department requested my help and began training me on the repair and maintenance of keeping a DVR going. I took well to my training and was very familiar with troubleshooting computers since I had the hands on experience in high school. Over time the department eventually became my responsibility and to this day I still enjoy working on computers.

Computer technology is always changing and it has given me many new things to learn. I have currently taught myself a tremendous amount about networking by setting up a network in my own home. My own network uses a router, wireless access point, remote printer and network switches. I have also now installed networks in my sister's home and a few friends houses.

JAY SPENCER'S INTEREST IN COOKING

If you have been to my fitness page I'm sure you discovered that I love to eat. I love to cook and I really do enjoy cooking for others. I consider my specialty comfort foods but I have learned to cook a wide variety of things through trial and error. I love cooking all types of seafood using various methods for cooking. I love cooking on the grill, where I have perfected my own technique for searing the juices and flavors into a steak without drying them out. I can cook any steak to order to perfection almost every time. When cooking anything I do not like to use written recepies because I found the food comes out better using my method. Food is always better when made in smaller batches as well.
